Memorial Day weekend ... time to relax and kick back.
In our city, today's focus is the Indianapolis 500 race. Lots of buzz. Lots of people. More eyes than ever are focused on our city since we were awarded the host of the Superbowl in 2012. I don't live close to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway but I live just close enough for the traffic to mess with me.
Sunday is usually my catch-up day: return emails, file papers, pay bills, etc. If I get really wacky, I deep condition my hair and paint my toenails. Middle-age maintenance is exhausting.
A running joke with the husband is that every day is a holiday for me. He finds it very funny. I'm slightly less entertained.
But, today he is correct. The pool is open. I'm headed over to cocktail corner. The water is calling and I'm escaping. The piles of paper and the bills will have to wait until tomorrow.
I can't wait to dive in.

The Mood Lifter
It is guaranteed that life will throw curves. Some days can be absolutely crummy. Little bumps can be cured by a belly laugh, a good meal, or a bubble bath. Some people lift their spirits by shopping. Some men I know (no need to mention names) can distract themselves by playing golf or playing cards.
When the bumps get bumpier, I like to have other options. Something to look forward to -- something to make me smile. When we were young, Jan used to make fun of me because I would buy a new item of clothing and let it hang it the closet. I liked knowing I had something to look forward to. I liked seeing the tags that told me it was a virgin item. Her daughter is trapped in the same disease.
That's probably why I enjoy the build-up to Christmas (or almost any holiday) more than the actual holiday. I thrive on the anticipation.
I LOVE to travel. I like to peruse my calendar to contemplate upcoming trips. The anticipation is fabulous and usually (except for that one disastrous Florida girlfriend trip) the trips are wonderful.
Things are a little crazy around here. Lots of decisions being made and I'm trying to stay out of the way. The girlfriends are planning our annual trip to Phoenix. Cross check and call forward. I'm booked.

Cross Check & Call Forward
When the flight attendants say, "Cross check and call forward." this is one of my favorite phrases. You're on a plane! You're going somewhere different! You're escaping!
In my previous job, I flew around the midwest quite a bit. I also had business trips across the country. Big jets, small planes ... it didn't matter. I had a job to do. While I still occasionally fly for business, I most often get on a plane for pleasure. I love it. Shut the door, do the routine and get this baby in the air.
I can get very depressed when I don't have an upcoming trip on my calendar.
